Juan Barjola was born in Torre de Miguel Sesmero, Badajoz, in 1919. He studied at the Arts and crafts School, and at the Art School in La Palma Street in Madrid. The Civil War had a dramatic impact on his painting. At the end of the fifties, he tended to expressionism and established himself as one of the modern painters of Spain. The engraving shows a bullfighting scene, where the animal tramples an individual, the horse and its rider, with all the symbolic charge to which this image invites us.
