Lucio Muñoz was born in Madrid in 1929. He began to develop non-figurative works influenced by the German artist Paul Klee and the Uruguayan Joaquín Torres García. After obtaining a scholarship in France in 1956, he discovered the work of Dubuffet, Tàpies, Wols or Fautrier, and decided never to give up the abstract. Although he stands out mainly as a painter, he made great contributions to engraving and mural painting, such as the one he did in the Basilica of Arantzazu in Oñate.

This woodcut is dedicated to his friend, the singer José Menese. There are elements reminiscent of fingers or tentacles with the intention of capturing a tower of coins. This wink of figurative cut reminds us of his beginnings, before fully embracing the abstract. In one of the texts that José María Moreno Galván dedicated to Lucio Muñoz in the magazine Triunfo, he mentioned that:

"Is Lucio Muñoz aware of the pre-written scope of his art? [...] The artist is a witness, in most cases, unaware. The real witness, the one in the secret of all horizons and all pretensions, is art itself. The artist is its instrument. If the artist does not know where he is going, art does."
