Ignacio Yraola was born in Barcelona in 1928. Trained in Law and Exact Sciences, he also showed interest in different disciplines such as painting, literature, music or architecture, becoming one of the most outstanding artists of the last Spanish realism. During the sixties he collaborated with the Zaj collective, carrying out conceptual art initiatives along with Esther Ferrer, Juan Hidalgo, and Walter Marchetti.

Yraola's painting evolves from the figurative to the abstract. The work Open the door Richard is an ensemble of painted wood in predominantly blue and pink tones. It presents a scene where the work itself is the door alluded to in the title. The piece is characterized by the artist's own striking palette of colors - what Moreno Galván defined as his Apollonian feeling for color - and the combination of wood and paint. Despite not being a pigment, wood is a decisive element in the drawing and composition. Unlike other artists of the time, Yraola presents wood in its own essence, combining it with other elements such as textiles or iron, seeking for these superimposed elements to reach a symbolic value.
