Rogelio López Cuenca was born in Nerja (Málaga) in 1959. He began his career combining poetry with the visual arts and mass media. As an artist involved in socio-political issues, his work addresses topics such as historical memory, institutional criticism, migration policies, new forms of urban speculation or the sensationalization of culture, which he interprets as negative symptoms of capitalism.
In his early years, López Cuenca researched music and collaborative work, highlighting his work with the musical group Peña Wagneriana and in the collectives Agustín Parejo School and Uníos, Hermanos Proletarios.
In this work, done in oil on canvas, the artist alludes to the Lebanese magnate, Raimond Nakachian, father of Mélodie Nakachian, a young girl who was the victim of a high-profile kidnapping that took place in the town of Estepona in 1987. The artist thus shows his will to denounce situations of violence and discrimination that have occurred both in history and in the present.
